And finally, I was reminded of this movie just now. Strange musical, bad theatrical production, but still, this scene - where Burger (Treat Williams) gets caught at the base posing for his buddy so he could meet up with all their hippie friends for one last freakout, and gets sent to Vietnam in his place - really gets to me. Even as a kid, when I first saw it, it taught me that war and violence were inevitable, tragically, no matter how hard you tried to avoid it. The best you could do was to stand your ground (Bernadette Peters alert).
